How to Buy and Use XMR in the Most Private Way
This guide is for informational purposes only. It summarizes publicly available advice on obtaining and using Monero (XMR) with stronger privacy.
Wallets
Use the official GUI or CLI wallet from the Monero project. Avoid storing large amounts on exchanges. Create a wallet from a trusted source and back up the seed phrase securely (offline).
Buying XMR
KYC (know-your-customer) exchanges link your identity to your coins. To improve privacy: use non-KYC options where legal (P2P, ATMs, or decentralized exchanges), or use a separate wallet for post-exchange use and avoid reusing addresses. Never share your wallet seed or view key.

Using XMR
Use sub-addresses for each recipient or purpose so one leak does not reveal all activity. Keep the wallet and OS updated. For high-risk use, consider a dedicated device or live OS (e.g. Tails with persistent Monero wallet).
